Rule of Carmel

St Albert of Jerusalem - Rule of Carmel - Wikipaedi

The rule of life given to the Carmelites by St. Albert Avogadro (image above) between the years 1206 – 1214, was finally approved as the true and proper Rule of Carmel by Pope Innocent IV in 1247.

A Carmelite is to “live a life in allegiance to Jesus Christ and serve him faithfully from a pure heart and a good conscience.” (no.2).

The Carmelite Rule

The Carmelite Rule is the shortest of all known Rules, almost exclusively made up of biblical precepts.
Despite being formulated in the 1200s, it is a rich source of inspiration for life today.
